Description

The Congo Tetra (Phenacogrammus interruptus) is one of the most beautiful freshwater schooling fish available, prized for its iridescent body that flashes shades of blue, gold, violet, and green under proper lighting. Males develop long, elegant fins that add incredible movement and presence to any tank.

Native to the Congo River Basin in Africa, these fish thrive in well-maintained aquariums with stable water conditions and plenty of swimming space. They are peaceful by nature and do best when kept in groups of 6 or more, where their natural schooling behavior really shines.

Congo Tetras pair well with other non-aggressive species and make an excellent addition to larger community tanks. Their calm temperament and striking appearance make them a favorite for hobbyists looking to add both color and motion to their aquarium.

  • Temperament: Peaceful
  • Diet: Omnivore (flakes, pellets, frozen foods)
  • Tank Size: 40+ gallons recommended
  • Group Size: 6 or more
  • Water Temperature: 73–82°F

With proper care, Congo Tetras will reward you with vibrant color, active schooling behavior, and a truly eye-catching display.
