Description
The Altolamprologus compressiceps “Orange” is a standout species in the cichlid community due to its striking orange hue and laterally compressed body, which gives it a leaf-like appearance. Native to the rocky substrates of Lake Tanganyika, this fish typically grows to around 6 inches in length and is known for its predatory nature, primarily feeding on smaller fish and invertebrates that it can ambush from crevices.
This cichlid requires a tank setup that mimics its natural habitat, with plenty of rocks and caves to provide hiding spots and breeding areas. The water conditions should be maintained with a pH of 8.0 to 9.0 and temperatures between 76 to 82°F to ensure the health and well-being of the Orange Compressiceps.
In terms of diet, the Orange Compressiceps is carnivorous, relying on a diet of live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and small fish. It is important to provide a varied diet to maintain its striking coloration and overall vitality.
