Description

The Cyaneus Hap (Copadichromis cyaneus “Zimbawe Rocks”) is a beautiful variant of Copadichromis cyaneus originating from the Zimbawe Rocks region of Lake Malawi. Adult males develop brilliant shades of electric blue that intensify with maturity, making them a standout feature in any African cichlid display. Females and juveniles exhibit more subdued coloration but retain the elegant body shape characteristic of the species.

In nature, Copadichromis species inhabit rocky and intermediate zones where they feed on plankton, small invertebrates, and other available food sources. In the aquarium, Cyaneus Haps thrive on a varied omnivorous diet consisting of quality cichlid pellets, frozen foods, and occasional vegetable-based offerings.

Known for their relatively peaceful nature among haplochromines, Cyaneus Haps are generally only mildly aggressive and can be successfully housed with peacocks, other peaceful haps, and similarly sized African cichlids. A spacious aquarium with open swimming areas, stable water conditions, and hard, alkaline water will help promote healthy growth and exceptional coloration.

Like other Lake Malawi haps, Copadichromis cyaneus is a maternal mouthbrooder. Females incubate the fertilized eggs in their mouths until the fry are fully developed and ready for release.

With its striking blue coloration, active swimming behavior, and compatible temperament, the Cyaneus Hap is an excellent choice for aquarists looking to add a colorful and elegant Lake Malawi cichlid to their collection.
