About Chitimba Bay
The Chitimba Bay Cichlid, native to the northern shores of Lake Malawi, is a stunning and sought-after addition to any aquarium. Renowned for its vibrant colors, this species often features shimmering blues, yellows, and contrasting dark vertical bars, making it a show-stopping fish for hobbyists. Its active and bold personality adds dynamic energy to your tank, while its territorial nature is typical of African cichlids.
Thriving in rocky habitats, the Chitimba Bay Cichlid prefers aquariums with plenty of rock formations and caves to establish territories and hide when needed. A tank size of at least 55 gallons is recommended to provide ample space for swimming and reduce aggression. This cichlid is semi-aggressive and pairs well with other similarly tempered Lake Malawi cichlids, provided tankmates are of similar size and temperament.
Primarily omnivorous, the Chitimba Bay Cichlid thrives on a varied diet of high-quality cichlid pellets, flakes, and occasional live or frozen foods like brine shrimp or krill. Maintaining a proper balance of plant-based and protein-rich foods ensures vibrant coloration and overall health.
With stable water conditions (pH 7.8–8.6, temperature 76°F–82°F) and a well-designed aquarium, the Chitimba Bay Cichlid will flourish, bringing both beauty and activity to your aquatic setup.
