Red Dragon Flowerhorn

About Red Dragon Flowerhorn

The Red Dragon Flowerhorn cichlid, with its radiant red hues and distinctive bodily structure, is a marvel in the world of aquaristics. Originating from selective breeding programs in Asia during the 1990s, this fish combines the genetic traits of notable cichlids like the Trimac and Red Devil with Parrotfish, culminating in its unique appearance and robust size, often exceeding 12 inches in captivity.

The Red Dragon Flowerhorn is celebrated not only for its striking appearance, characterized by its deep red to pinkish body, solid-red eyes, and the iconic nuchal hump, but also for its engaging personality. It interacts playfully with aquarium owners, showing a level of intelligence and curiosity uncommon among freshwater fish.

Caring for this cichlid requires a dedicated approach, given its size and activity level. A minimum tank size of 50 gallons is recommended, with conditions that replicate the warm, neutral pH waters of its cichlid ancestors. Their diet should be diverse and nutrient-rich to support their health and vibrant coloration.

Despite their hardy nature, Red Dragon Flowerhorns are prone to common cichlid ailments, thus necessitating vigilant tank management and regular health monitoring. Their assertive temperament mandates careful selection of tank mates to avoid aggression.

In essence, the Red Dragon Flowerhorn is not just an aquatic pet but a centerpiece of aquatic artistry, combining stunning aesthetics with dynamic behavior, making it a prized species among cichlid enthusiasts.
