Aulonocara Jacobfreibergi can be found at various locations around Lake Malawi, including Chitande Island, Mpanga Rocks, Chirwa Island, Cape Maclear area, Domwe Island, Makokola Reef, and many more. It is also present in Mozambique and Tanzania.
Habitat:

In Lake Malawi, the pH of the water averages about 8.3. Water temperature varies seasonally, ranging from as low as 20°C in the dry season to as high as 30°C in sheltered bays during the rainy season. Breeding males of Aulonocara Jacobfreibergi establish their territories inside caves, with some populations inhabiting rocky areas and others preferring intermediate habitats.
Conservation Status:

Aulonocara Jacobfreibergi is evaluated as “Least Concern” according to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (2006). However, it’s important to note that certain populations, such as the one at Undu in Tanzania (known as “Mamalela”), have faced threats from collectors in the ornamental trade.
